OUR HERITAGEThis famous Australian fireworks family found its spark back in 1922 with Sydney Howard snr, who followed his keen interest in the art of pyrotechnics by manufacturing small quantities of fireworks in Newcastle, New South Wales. As word passed around of Mr Howard’s extraordinary skill, demand for his services increased.Harry Howard soon joined his father at their new Sydney factory, where they worked together to produce Roman Candles, Mines, Fountains and Aerial Shells. Howard & Sons was commissioned to produce dazzling fireworks displays for the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932, as well as royal visits to Australia and New Zealand and many of Australia’s major festivals. Harry’s sons, Les and Syd Howard, were the next generation to join the Howard & Sons team. Some of the jewels in the sparkling crown of their achievements included spectaculars for celebrating the bicentenary in 1970 of Captain Cook landing in Australia, the opening of the Sydney Opera House in 1973 and for celebrating Australia’s Bicentennial in 1988. Les had designed a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Sydney’s western suburbs in the 1960s, where he concentrated on producing the highest quality fireworks in the world. His perfectionism won the company the prestigious contract to supply Disneyland and Disneyworld in the US, the largest daily users of the fireworks in the world. Today Les’s sons, Christian and Andrew Howard (fourth generation pyrotechnicians), continue the Howard dynasty, bringing their own individual drive and creativity to the national and international success story that is Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics. Andrew Howard (company director) has been involved in every major fireworks display the company has presented since 1995. Andrew has a unique style of designing and choreographing pyromusical displays and is now renowned around the world after presenting displays in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Macau, Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, China, the US and Canada, as well as throughout Australia. Andrew’s experience of large scale and technically challenging events, combined with his knowledge of pyrotechnic products and production logistics, result in spectacular events of the highest standard and allow him to lead an entire production team through every display – large or small. Christian Howard (company director) has a worldwide reputation for developing new and unique pyrotechnic devices and introducing them to the world. Christian’s innovative product development and creative design in pyromusical displays have been rewarded by winning numerous international fireworks competitions in recent years. Together Andrew and Christian, along with their talented team of skilled pyrotechnicians, continue the family tradition of developing and harnessing the power of an ancient science to produce magnificent displays of art with fire, colour, light and sound.
